Explore basic research, biotechnology, the medical industry or a STEM-related field, and prepare for a rewarding career in science and beyond.

A strong understanding of science is the foundation for many of the fastest-growing, exciting and essential careers in our complex global economy. The Science associate degree at Dean College will provide you with the knowledge necessary to seamlessly transfer into further education or enter the life sciences job market.

Program Overview

As a Science major, you will complete four lab science courses in addition to a sequence of general education course requirements. In lab courses, you will have the opportunity to explore open-ended projects that prepare you for independent research. You will be exposed to the practical applications of the discipline through guest speakers, projects and interactive courses using the same life sciences equipment found in research institutions and industry.

Built on a solid liberal arts foundation, the science curriculum combines theory and practice. You will learn how to recognize the scientific method in various contexts, the basic scientific principles in biology and chemistry, and utilize technology to gather, store and present academic research or scientific topics. You will learn how to identify and contextualize key historical figures in biology and chemistry, draw conclusions from laboratory experiences and present data in an appropriate format. Finally, you will develop the practical applications of problem solving.
