  • Dean College Hosts Honor Societies' New Member Recognition Ceremony

    Honor Society Ceremony 2018

Dean College held the 2018 Honor Societies’ New Member Recognition Ceremony this past Thursday, April 5th in the Marvin Chapel located in Dean Hall. Students were inducted into three societies: Phi Theta Kappa, Alpha Sigma Lambda, and the Golden Key International Honor Society.

Dr. Michael Fishbein, Vice President for Academic Affairs at Dean provided opening remarks before transitioning the podium over to President Dr. Paula Rooney to welcome the crowd.

Alexander McCullough, Brendan Pacheco, and Samuel Smith, who were the recipients of the 2017-2018 Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship, provided the audience with words of inspiration.

The induction ceremony of the three societies followed the remarks starting with Phi Theta Kappa. Phi Theta Kappa recognizes and encourages academic achievement among two-year college students. Criteria for membership include a cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.8 after one semester or 3.5 after two or more semesters. Students that are inducted into this society also must demonstrate good citizenship. Phi Theta Kappa welcomed 27 new Dean College students.

Alpha Sigma Lambda inducted 9 new members this year from the School of Continuing Studies. These students were recognized as adults who have accomplished academic excellence while facing competing interests at home and work. The inductees were selected as a result of their outstanding academic achievement and conduct in the Dean Community while also maintaining a spot in the top 20% of their graduating class.

Golden Key International Honor Society inducted 31 new members. These students were chosen for membership as a result of their outstanding academic achievements and fantastic conduct in the Dean Community. These students are required to hold a spot in the top 15% of the junior and senior classes with at least a 3.5 cumulative Grade Point Average.

    Congratulations to the 2018 members!
