Prepare for an exciting career inside professional or collegiate sports organizations with a degree in sport management from Dean College.

Sports and fitness are big business. With an associate or bachelor’s degree in sport management from Dean College, you can combine your love of athletics with the chance to manage a successful organization.

Program Overview

The sport management program is one of Dean College’s most distinct offerings. As an associate or bachelor’s degree student, you’ll benefit from real-world learning opportunities both on and off campus that connect classroom theory to industry practice. You’ll graduate with not only the knowledge but also the experience to jump right into a rewarding career.

Housed in the School of Business, the sport management program leverages coursework from our top-notch degrees in business management, coaching and recreation, exercise science, physical education and more. Every course has a practical application. You’ll learn proven business principles and organizational management strategies while immersing yourself in the science and social impact of sport. Core courses and electives include:

  • Principles of Economics
  • Statistical Analysis and Decision Making
  • Sport Law
  • Venue Management
  • Psychology of Sport
  • Business Policy and Strategic Management
  • History and Philosophy of Sport and Physical Activity

Beyond the Classroom

In the sport management program, you can earn up to 15 credits through internships—the equivalent of five elective courses. A terrific internship resource is the Center for Business, Entertainment and Sport Management, a partnership between Dean College and the Kraft Sports + Entertainment. Popular internship sites include Patriot Place, the Boston Blades, the New England Revolution and the Cape Cod Baseball League.

You will participate in on- and off-campus consulting projects, where you can apply management and decision-making strategies to real-world business situations. One of those projects could serve as the foundation for your senior capstone.

You will also have invaluable opportunity to meet with and learn from sport industry veterans during campus visits organized by the Dean Leadership Institute and the Center for Business, Entertainment and Sport Management.

Stand Out from the Crowd

Oliver Nissi '20 is a Sport Management major at Dean College. During his spare time, he is a writer for the Boston Red Sox Yawkey Way Report (YWR). As a reward, he was given tickets to a home game in the spring against the Oakland Athletics (The Red Sox won 7-3!).
